Like many artists Denise Strong finds her inspiration in nature and especially treasures Northern Ontario’s rugged beauty and the waters around the Bruce Peninsula. She expresses herself through painting, photography and ferro cement, capturing the timelessness of the natural world.
She favours painting on plywood as the texture underscores what she is trying to express. Recently she has been experimenting by adding layers of carved plywood to plywood boards, a process that is slowly developing into a more refined technique.
Denise Strong has had a lifelong interest in the arts and her support of the arts has garnered her several awards in recognition of these efforts. She has participated in juried shows at Globe Studios, but sells her art mainly through her own studio “Behind the Red Door” in the Boehmer Box Building on Breithaupt Street in Kitchener. Throughout the last four years she has also organized group shows and individual shows for emerging artists at her studio.
At present she is co-chair of the Regional Arts Council and a board member of the Regional Arts Fund. She is also an original member of the Box Shows.
