Helena Pravda

Artist Statement

My background in psychology and the arts, in concert with knowledge and intuition, allows me to create a physical interpretation of the emotions and feelings that a work’s subject invokes within me. I strive to excel in deeply detailed observation and examination of people, and to distil that observation into an awakening of thoughts and emotions in my audience.

The initial inspiration came while visiting my mother several years ago in the Czech Republic.  My mother’s hands were wrinkled, the knuckles swollen, each feature an intimate revelation of her past.  I felt that she could see reflected in those hands, the essence of a person, and wished to capture this amazing expressiveness with passionately detailed drawings.
