Marion Anderson

Artist Statement

My work is based on lived-experience. This wetlands suite of large mixed media acrylic on canvas paintings features the Elsinore Swamp located just north of Southampton. My summers are spent teaching and plein air painting in this area. The marsh provides such a variety of texture that I find it necessary to use a limited palette for each piece as I attempt to capture a mood or temperature. As outdoor painters, our favourite saying is “if you don’t like the weather, wait 20 minutes!”

Marion R. Anderson earned her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Windsor, Masters of Education at the University of Western Ontario and her Visual Arts Honours Specialist at the University of Toronto. She is an active member of Kitchener Waterloo Society of Artists (KWSA) and Central Ontario Art Association (COAA).  Anderson is represented by Studio Works, Paris, Ontario. She is the feature artist in the Kitchener-Conestoga Rotary Dream Home annually! Marion has recently been featured in the book Talent Next Door (Waterloo Region).

Currently, Anderson is the Visual Arts Department Head for the Waterloo Region District School Board at Waterloo Oxford District Secondary School.  Anderson also teaches for Conestoga College at the Homer Watson House and Gallery in Doon and The Southampton Art School.  Because it is important to Anderson to balance the theoretical with the practical, she encourages her students to express themselves through art, while producing and marketing her own artwork.

Originally from Kent County, Anderson currently makes her home and studio in New Dundee, Ontario, Canada.
